For my Jetta 2.0 engine into 1988 Vanagon swap, I may delete this connector and solder new portions of wire to the engine portion of harness. The wires on the engine portion of harness tend to get brittle, corroded, then fail. The connector itself is purported as being prone to failure but so far, on my first ABA swap, it has not been an issue. If I delete the 28a connector, I may install a plug between fuel injectors and intake air sensor. If I recall, that portion of harness is clipped to the fuel rail which is under the intake, so it's not easy to remove if removing the engine. I'm sure that's part of the reason why VW installed that 28a connector.

This is a test post of ABA engine rebuild images
cylinder before machine work (hone)
Mark made on intermediate shaft journal. I did NOT make this mark. Can't figure why someone would do this.
images of marks on cylinder bore after hot tank and deglaze
I checked all journals after machine shop work
#5 main bearing
#1 main
end play shims at #3 bearing
image of later style 2.0 (AEG??) end play shim position
#3 main bearing Plastigauge
a rod journal
Rod journal near spec for "new" (0.01 - 0.06 mm)
End play with new bearings etc. very gentle levering on screwdriver
A VW PDF of AEG and ABA engine rebuilding refers to "engine front" regarding rod orientation.
I wasn't clear if they meant "front" as it is mounted in a Mk3 or "front" meant the pulley end of engine. Seems it's the latter. This is for a VW Fox engine but I doubt VW changed that aspect since then.

Opinion: "Fast Food Comms"
Edited slightly for clarity.
People "talk". (gossip) It's a natural tendency. As we know, when gossip gets shared from person to person, related details can change. Face to face communication may help correct these details. When gossip becomes text, it can be reduced to a $2 burger; short on ketchup and mustard, low on taste and substance, but full of sugar, salt and fat. Without facial expressions, body language and other details humans share face to face, this text usually loses the original intent, context and meaning. Text "tone" can be misinterpreted, assumptions easily made, the burger mills fed with inaccurate information.
Text based communication are convenient, accessible and highly prevalent. "Burgers" flipped off keyboards are consumed with gusto. Our mental palate possibly tasting only their face value.
Given the potential volume and world wide capabilities of "Fast Food Comms", they can have a highly negative effect on the person(s) involved.
Of course, I see the irony of posting this on a blog.
;^) <------ please note texticon. LOL.

So here I sit at the Sylvania hotel bar. (See below). A classy place. The food is good, they play old school Jazz ambient music, and I can walk here from my new place.
So far, I'm quite happy with my move from Marpole to the west end in Vancouver.
My adventurous transition from there to here involved a very cold (- 8 C ?) overnight stealth in my
88 bus, (after a few drinks at a local VW van meetup; sleeping in the cold was all part of a master plan!) and a relatively low cost night at hotel in Richmond. Short story: tell the landlord when YOU want to do the inspection. Like on the last day! Naive me. I thought they'd let me spend my last night there after the inspection. Irony though was that the heat and hot water stopped working the day before I left my old place. Crazy. Such weird timing. i.e sold my Honda the day I left my place! Crazy.
Gotta say though, the vanagons have proven themselves incredibly useful. Moved all my stuff from house to first apartment and from there to rental garage I have. Had the sense to hire a fellow from Craigslist to help with rest of this 2nd move. It's enough to deal with all the other stuff. Moving everything yourself on top of all that, well, it's just stupid.
I'm learning that there is no perfect apartment but you certainly get what you pay for at some level. I'm sure this new place will have some flaws but I'm fairly sure I won't have to endure screaming matches between spouses, mad thumping from above or smoke enhanced clothing.
I feel like I've paid my entire life of rent paying dues in just 6 months renting at the marpole place.
